Psychological Assessments
Evidence-based evaluations to understand strengths, challenges
Gaining Insight Through Assessment
At Brisbane Centre for Psychology, we provide a range of psychological assessments to build a clearer understanding of how individuals think, learn and function in daily life. Assessments can help identify strengths, challenges, and support needs, particularly in areas such as learning differences, ADHD, autism, and other neurodevelopmental presentations.
Learning Assessments
Our learning assessments explore how a person thinks, learns, and engages with the world. They are available for children, adolescents and adults at any stage of development.
An assessment may be helpful if:
- Learning feels harder than expected
- There is disengagement or low motivation
- There are long-standing academic challenges
- There is a possibility of giftedness or advanced ability
Our goal is to provide clear results and compassionate guidance. We focus on identifying strengths, understanding challenges, and planning effective next steps with confidence.
What Our Assessments Explore
Our learning assessments can include exploration of:
- Cognitive functioning – how information is processed, problem-solving patterns, and overall thinking style
- Academic skills – current levels in reading, writing and mathematics
These insights help build a well-rounded understanding of learning engagement and areas that may benefit from support or further challenge. Outcomes may include identification of:
- A specific learning disability (e.g., reading, written expression, maths)
Giftedness or high learning potential requiring enrichment or extension
Sometimes, additional areas such as motivation, attention, executive functioning, emotional wellbeing, self-regulation and social skills may also be explored. These components are optional and discussed openly with you before proceeding.
What to Expect
Each assessment process is tailored to the individual and typically involves a series of one-on-one sessions using age-appropriate tasks to gather meaningful information.
- For children and teens: We collaborate with parents or caregivers, gather developmental history, and request relevant information from schools or other professionals.
- For adults: We explore your learning history, current challenges, and goals for assessment—whether for self-understanding, diagnostic clarity, or support in education or the workplace.
Once the assessment is complete, we organise a feedback session and provide a detailed written report outlining strengths, challenges and any diagnostic outcomes. Recommendations are practical, personalised and easy to apply in daily life.
Moving Forward
During feedback, we guide you through the results in clear, accessible language and provide space for reflection and questions. If further support is needed—such as therapy, educational adjustments, workplace accommodations or referrals—we ensure you feel informed and supported in your next steps.
